Albana Passito Romagna DOCG - 2013 - 94 punti

“From the first tilt of the glass, it’s almost impossible to pull yourself away from the 2013 Albana Passito. The color alone dazzles, a brilliant amberish gold with pink hues. Its bouquet mixes orange oils with mango and papaya before evolving further to show richer notes of custard, ginger spiced cookie and raw honey. It enters the palate succulent and sweet, yet not as weighty as anticipated, gaining a contrasting salty twang that mixes with its opulently ripe orchard fruits and tropical citrus tones to create wonderful contrasts. Potent and intense, yet also nicely balanced, the 2013 tapers off unexpectedly fresh, leaving nuances of peach and melon that last for up to a minute. Quite frankly, this could stand tall next to many of the best dessert wines in Italy.” (Eric Guido)

Olmatello Romagna DOC Sangiovese Superiore Riserva - 2018 - 93 punti

Wild berries and plums are complemented by a dusting of autumnal spices, crushed dried Sowers and smoke as the 2018 Sangiovese Superiore Riserva Olmatello blossoms in the glass. This soothes with a silken wave of ripe red and hints of blue fruit, as saline-minerality and herbal tones add a more savory edge. Rosey inner Sorals and hints of salted licorice linger incredibly long over a coating of fine-grained tannins, leaving the palate classically dry. The 2018 Riserva Olmatello is a gorgeous expression of pure Sangiovese from one of the highest elevations within the Podere La Berta vineyards. It’s matured for twenty-four months in a combination of second and third-pass French barriques.” (Eric Guido)

Solano Romagna DOC Sangiovese Superiore - 2017 - 91 punti

The 2017 Sangiovese Superiore Solano opens slowly in the glass, as roses, hints of smoke and cedar give way to wild strawberries and nuances of plum. It’s savory yet elegant, washing silky textures across the palate that deliver notes of tart black cherry, minerals and spice. Fine tannins slowly saturate, nicely contrasted by brisk acidity and hints of sour citrus, as this tapers off with admirable length. Podere La Berta did a fantastic job of achieving balance from this warm and dry vintage, making the 2017 a slightly more approachable yet highly enjoyable rendition of Solano.” (Eric Guido)

Podere La Berta Sangiovese Superiore - 2020 - 90 punti

The 2020 Sangiovese Superiore dials up the intensity while delivering tons of varietal purity. Wild berries, cherries, hints of undergrowth and leather strap waft up from the glass. It’s silky and round in feel, but with tart red fruits and minerals to balance, as a coating of sweet tannins collect toward the close. There’s a sweet and sour tug of tension that lingers, as this tapers off lightly structured to hints of plum and rosy inner Sorals.” (Eric Guido)
